Power Factor Correction

Vol. 6 - September 2021

Most loads in modern electrical distribution systems are inductive such as motors, transformers, gaseous tube lighting ballasts, and induction furnaces. Inductive loads need a magnetic field to operate. Inductive loads require two kinds of current:

• Working power (kW) to perform the work of creating heat, light, motion, machine output, etc.

• Reactive power (kVAR) to sustain the magnetic field

Power factor is the ratio of working power to apparent power .It measures how effectively electrical power is being used.  A high power factor signals efficient utilization of electrical power, while a low power factor indicates poor utilization of electrical power

Low power factor means you’re not fully utilizing the electrical power you’re paying for.

Safety Lighting - Compliance Checklist

Vol. 1 - April 2021

Emergency illumination is defined as the emergency lighting within a building that is in place

to light the path of emergency egress when the normal supply of power is not available,

and it is a key component to the life safety system.

Safety Lighting: Is your Facility Compliant?

Are all Exits and paths of egress illuminated to 1 average foot candle at all times?
Are all Exit and Emergency lighting tested every 30 days?
Are all Exit signs fully illuminated?
Does all Emergency Lighting remain illuminated for at least 90 minutes?

Are there Exit signs present along the egress path, at doorways leading to an egress path, and at exits, placed to ensure that an exit sign is visible from no more than 100ft or the listed viewing distance of the exit sign?

Did you answer “No” or “I don’t know” to any questions above?

Great news…CED can help! Reach out to your CED Account Manager to schedule a time to talk more in depth about your safety lighting and ways in which we can make compliance fast and easy, and your facility as safe as possible!
